Teak can be a good material for boat accessories because of its tradition and aesthetics. It is also ideal in other respects. The greasy, hard wood can withstand extreme temperature differences, harsh weather, and fungal and insect infestations.

Teak is one of Thailand's most valuable natural resources, and its management is strictly regulated. Since 1989, there has been a ban on commercial logging of native tree species, including teak, on public land. The export of teak is limited and subject to strict control. Teak can only be exported in the form of processed products, and the process is closely monitored by authorities such as the Royal Forest Department (RFD) and the Forest Industry Organization (FIO).
To ensure sustainable forestry, a portion of the revenue from teak sales is reinvested in reforestation and forest restoration. These initiatives involve both governmental and private actors and aim to increase tree planting and secure a long-term supply of timber.
Thailand’s forest policy is also designed to promote sustainable forestry through various programs supporting local communities and private actors in reforestation and forest restoration efforts.
